Services - Hypertension
Hypertension is simply another term used for high blood pressure. There are two numbers used when measuring your blood pressure. To understand the risks involved with hypertension, please watch the video below.
What causes hypertension?
It is important to recognize that typically, hypertension is not caused by one thing. However, there are a number of risk factors. Those risk factors include the following:
- Obesity or overweight can increase your risk because the heart must work harder to pump enough blood to the whole body.
- Stress is also another common factor. There are number of hormones released in the body when you are stressed. Many of these hormones cause an increase in the your blood pressure. However the long-term impact and the link between these hormones are still being studied.
- Too much alcohol consumption can also lead to hypertension. This is partially due to not only the temporary effects of alcohol intake, but also due to the impact alcohol has on blood vessels. The presence of alcohol in your blood will result in hardening of the blood vessels and subsequently less elasticity in the vessels.
